"So my question is, Bach liked to get down, so to speak?"
I've no idea who in my Bach class asked this question. The rest of it was even funnier, in context--although I did feel a little bad laughing.

I think I've been listening to new music, but all I can remember is

9. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver: I'm sorry for not listening to this sooner, I suppose. But it's not really my thing. The genre, I mean. Different strokes? I do like it, don't get me wrong. But this isn't what I listen to when I'm alone in my apartment.

and for movies, given my somewhat insane schedule (I am taking Music 405 as well) I can only add

11. Bed and Board (1970): Probably my least favorite Antoine Doinel film. But I haven't seen Love on the Run. That's tomorrow night.

Comparative Literature 100
Doesn't look like it should be too hard. The reading is more than manageable, and the papers aren't particularly long. I had a moment of panic, thinking I really ought to be in McCarthy's class. But I think this'll be good. I don't have much experience reading this range of literature (with exceptions that stand out on the list already anyway), and I'd like a broader perspective. Garcia-Moreno was at Irvine, so of course there's an appropriate amount of theory. Which is nice, because I'm almost done with Eagleton's really nice introduction to literary theory. Cultural studies is pretty cool. But I don't want to get too caught up in any particular branch of it, because I think that might be a quick dead-end for any undergraduate education.

French 2
Olga is very nice, of course. I would prefer to have a classroom with windows. The class is not too hard at all, of course. It's French 2. Just beaucoup de devoirs and memorizing. I do miss last semester's group, and there are some pretty pretentious people in this bunch. But I was totally right this morning about a construction after someone else tried to correct me. And that gave me (who am insecure about my French abilities, especially when Tim and Matteo try to speak with me) some little confidence.

Music 49B
Damn, what an intense workload. Not that I mind, I suppose. I want to be a better musician, and I want to be understanding music critically on a much more profound level. That starts here, in Musicianship I. But I have loads of catching up to do. Dana has a reputation for being a hard teacher, but a great teacher.

Music 49C
I think Audrey told me that Mason Bates would be fun. And he is. A little disorganized, but what do you expect from a GSI who plays (or tries to play, anyway) Brian Eno and Beck in the first class? He's a rad guy. I hope I get a lot out of this class.

Music 128D(M?), Bach
At the moment, since I'm undeclared I'm taking the non-major version of this class (they're the same course with different titles). I may petition to have that changed--which would just mean more work. But I don't know if I will. That'd be 22 units, and I still haven't filed anything. I don't want to die.

Music 149, Baroque Ensemble
It's Baroque Ensemble. I had dinner with Roger (our concertmaster) afterward. It's my favorite class.

Music 405
So technically I'm not in this class yet. But I will be as of tomorrow, probably. Basic piano skills.

aww, bach class. that class kept me [slightly] sane that semester, what with it being not architecture and not insanely demanding...i just wish i'd had more time to actually do the reading. i still have the books, so i suppose i can still read them, someday.

what category do classes fall in that are numbered in the 400s? i mean, generally anything 99 and under is lower div, 100s are upper div, 200s are graduate level...

Oh yeah, I forgot that you took that class! Read the books--I'm already well into the Bach Reader and for the other, Moroney gushing on his favorite subject is probably worth the effort!

Haha yeah, 400s are weird. In the music department, at least, it's for classes that just don't go anywhere else.
